There are only a handful of Iowa high school girls soccer games remaining on the regular season schedule for teams around the state.
Before we know it, some of the top teams will converge on Iowa State’s campus, with hopes of winning a state title.
With plenty of action remaining in the season, the Des Moines Register has identified 30 of the top players to watch, putting them in contention for Player of the Year.
This is not a final list – as other players could make an over the next few weeks – but rather a midseason look at where things stand.
Statistics were collected from Bound.com as of Monday, May 11 at 11:30 a.m. Players are listed in alphabetical order by last name.
Reese Barnett, So., North Scott
The Lancers have compiled a 10-1-2 overall record, with a lot of their offensive success coming from this standout sophomore. Her 15 assists are tied for the most in Class 2A and her 47 points – thanks to 16 goals – is the third-most in the class.
Emmarie Becker, Sr., Ankeny Centennial
The Jaguars have a 9-1-1 overall record in the first months of the season, and even with a few scorers sharing the load, Becker stands out. She scored four goals and dished out two assists for 10 total points in 11 games.
Morgan Crees, Sr., Panorama
The competition is tight in Class 1A, and Crees is among the top scorers at her level. She is second in 1A with 40 goals and 92 total points – which includes 12 assists – helping Panorama to an 11-1-0 record.
Taylor Davis, Jr., Hudson
With a 10-2-0 record, Hudson is among the top teams in 1A. Davis is the leading scorer on this squad, with 22 goals and 11 assists for 55 total points.
Linde Hubbard, Jr., Waverly-Shell Rock
There are several standout players on the Go-Hawks, who are 9-0-1 in the first months of the season. Hubbard is the leading scorer on this team, with 10 goals – plus six assists – in eight games.
Maelyn Kluever, Sr., Maquoketa
With 41 goals this season, Kluever leads all players in 1A in scoring. She also leads the class in assists, with 19. Her offensive success has helped the Cardinals to a 10-1-0 overall record.
Aubrey Luck, Sr., Linn-Mar
The Lions started the year with an 8-3-2 overall record, and Luck is the offensive leader of this squad. She scored 16 goals in 13 games played, and the senior standout added five assists.
Grace Mullihan, Sr., Denver
With a 10-0-1 record – which includes 10 shutouts – Denver is the team to beat in 1A. Mullihan is a leader on the field and on the stat sheet, with eight goals and nine assists in this uber-talented lineup.
Addy Oetker, Sr., Des Moines Christian
The Lions kicked off the season with nine-straight wins and hold a 10-2-1 overall record. Oetker is the leading scorer on this squad, with 17 goals, and her 14 assists show that she’s just as good at setting her teammates up for success.
Ava Paoli, Sr., Ankeny
The Hawks have played one of the toughest schedules in the state, and Ankeny still sits near the top of the standings with a 7-4-0 record. Paoli played a large role in that success, leading the team with nine goals and four assists.
Reese Roettger, Sr., Waukee Northwest
It’s not easy picking one player from the Wolves (7-0-2) roster, but Roettger stands out. The senior defender is part of why Waukee Northwest has allowed only three goals all season, and she has added a couple of assists, as well.
Olivia Rotich, Jr., Valley
The Tigers have only been beaten by one in-state opponent so far this season, and Rotich is the offensive leader on the stat sheet. She collected 10 goals and five assists in a dozen games played, helping Valley to a 9-2-1 record.
Alivia Snow, Sr., Bettendorf
The Bulldogs sit near the top of the standings with a 9-1-3 overall record, and Snow is no stranger to success. She’s spent the past few seasons as one of the top players in the state, and this year, she’s up to eight goals and five assists, so far.
Ziva Spellman, Jr., Des Moines Roosevelt
The Roughriders boast an 8-2-2 record against some tough competition in 3A, and Stillman solidified her spot at the top of the stat sheet. Her 19 goals are the third-most in the class, and she has added five assists, as well.
Emyrson Torsky, Jr., Dallas Center-Grimes
The Mustangs are the standard of success in girls soccer, winning four straight state championships. DCG boasts an 8-1-2 record, which includes eight shutouts thanks to Torsky’s talents in net. She’s allowed just three goals all season and compiled a 90.3 save percentage in 560 minutes.
Olivia Welch, Sr., Norwalk
There are several players on the Warriors roster who have similar statistics, but Welch sits at the top of the sheet. Her nine goals and five assists have helped Norwalk to a 10-1-1 record against one of the hardest schedules in the state.
Irelynn White, Jr., Lewis Central
White is the second-leading scorer in Class 2A, with 28 goals scored during the Titans’ 9-4-1 season. She has added 11 assists, as well, and made one penalty kick in 14 games played, so far, this year.
Hadley Wolfe, Sr., Fort Madison
The Bloodhounds hold a 9-1-1 overall record with a handful of games left in the regular season. Wolfe leads all 2A players with 30 goals, and she is third with 13 assists – totaling a class-high 71 points.
Annika Yoder-Stoulil, Sr., Gilbert
The senior goalkeeper is just one of several stars on this Gilbert roster, which boasts a 10-0-2 overall record. But after posting eight-straight shutouts – and an 83.9 save percentage in 830 minutes played – Yoder-Stoulil stands out in net.
Zoey Zadalis, Sr., Treynor
The Cardinals have posted one of the most impressive records in 1A, going 11-0-0 with just five games remaining in the regular season. Zadalis is a force in net, allowing just two goals and compiling a 94.3 save percentage in 760 minutes between the pipes.
