A 28-year-old was killed after being struck by two vehicles while standing on Interstate 80 in Iowa City.
Yanelli Camarena, 28, was pronounced dead early on Sunday, July 5, and transferred to the University of Iowa Health Care by the Johnson County Medical Examiner, according to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol.
A semi-truck, driven by Terry Evearitt, 80, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, struck Camarena around 1 a.m. as they stood in an eastbound lane on I-80 near mile marker 245, near the Dodge Street exit. Camarena was hit by a second vehicle, a 2025 Buick Enclave, driven by Macey Rogers, 25 of Muscatine.
The accident is under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, with assistance from the Iowa City Police Department, the Iowa City Fire Department, and the Johnson County Medical Examiner.
