ELKHART LAKE, WI – Following IndyCar’s second Indy NXT race of the weekend, a driver has been stripped of a victory.
AJ Foyt Racing’s Alessandro de Tullio won the support series race on track Sunday, but a post-race technical inspection revealed that de Tullio and teammate Nicholas Monteiro’s cars started Sunday’s race on a different set of Firestone tires than they used during qualifying.
IndyCar Officiating found AJ Foyt Racing in violation of two Indy NXT rules:
These are deemed Level 3 infractions under IndyCar Officiating’s recently established technical infractions. Level 3 is the most severe, leading to disqualifications and suspensions. As a result, both cars and drivers were disqualified from the race with no points, and the win was awarded to Matteo Nannini of Cape Motorsports Powered by ECR.
At the time, de Tullio had his second win of the season and was fourth in the Indy NXT championship, but he will now drop to eighth in the standings after gaining no points.
