A large structure is going up on the far east side outside I-465, catching eyes driving down 21st Street in Warren Township.
What’s being built there just northeast of the 21st Street and Post Road intersection?
The answer: A new Veterans Affairs medical outpatient center.
VA: East side center will increase medical access
The outpatient center on the east side that will increase access for veterans to receive medical care has been steadily going vertical at 9402 E. 21st St. Plans are for the center to open in spring 2027. The clinic will employ more than 125 staff members and serve up to 12,000 veterans in the area.
Currently, most veterans go to the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans’ Administration Medical Center in downtown Indianapolis, which serves 70,000 people, for care. There are also clinics on the west side off Lafayette Road and Cold Spring Road, meaning residents in some areas of the city have to travel more than 30 minutes to get care.
The Post Road location will be the first VA facility on the east side and will include primary care, women’s health, mental health and physical and occupational therapy, among other health services.
