Vote in the May 25-June 2 South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week poll

Voting is now open for the May 25-June 2 South Bend Tribune Athlete of the Week poll, with no voting restrictions until the poll closes Saturday, June 6 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The next Athlete of the Week poll will cover Wednesday, June 3 through Monday, June 8, and will be published the morning of Tuesday, June 9.

Below is a list of this poll’s 33 nominees from 19 different South Bend Tribune coverage area schools in alphabetical order first by school, then by sport, then by gender. The poll can be found at the bottom of this story.

Hudson Aalfs, Brandywine baseball

The sophomore pitched six innings in a MHSAA Division 3 district semifinal Saturday, May 30, allowing four hits, two walks and no earned runs with eight strikeouts, and he combined for four walks, two hits and one run across two district games as the Bobcats won their first district championship since 2008.

Zack Rouch, Bremen baseball

The senior Spalding University commit combined for five hits, five RBIs, two runs, two walks, two home runs and a double while playing catcher in three sectional games as the Lions won their first 2A sectional championship since 2023.

Kate Kincaid, Bremen girls track

The sophomore won the 800-meter run regional championship at Goshen Tuesday, May 27 with a school record 2:15.17 time.

Aspen Berry, Buchanan softball

The senior combined for four RBIs, two hits, two triples and one run across two MHSAA Division 3 district games Saturday, May 30, as the Bucks won a district championship.

Bree Campbell, Dowagiac softball

The sophomore pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout in the Chieftains’ MHSAA Division 2 district championship win Saturday, May 30, striking out 12, and allowing just two hits and two walks. At the plate across two district games, Campbell had four RBIs, one hit, one run and one double.

Zachary Overmyer, Edwardsburg boys track and field

The senior United States Naval Academy (Navy) commit finished in second place at the MHSAA Division 2 state finals Saturday, May 30 in high jump at 6-06 feet.

Alonzo Newbern, Elkhart boys track

The senior won the 200-meter dash regional championship at Warsaw Thursday, May 29 with a 21.47-second time. He was also on the championship-winning 4×100-meter relay team.

Claira Foust, Fairfield girls track and field

The junior won the high jump regional championship at Goshen Tuesday, May 27 at 5-04 feet.

Emma Walter, Fairfield girls track

The junior won the 100-meter dash regional championship at Goshen Tuesday, May 27 with an 11.75-second finish.

Bray Hoag, Goshen baseball

The senior pitched a seven-inning no-hitter in a 4A sectional semifinal vs. Elkhart Saturday, May 30, striking out eight batters and walking three. Across three sectional games at the plate, Hoag combined for five hits, four RBIs and a walk as the RedHawks won their second straight 4A sectional championship.

Amari Lind, Goshen girls track

The sophomore won the 200-meter dash regional championship at Goshen Tuesday, May 27 with a regional record 24.35-second finish. She was also part of the 4×400-meter relay regional championship team with a regional record 3:51.55 finish.

Kristina Petkova, Goshen girls track

The senior Dartmouth College commit won the 400-meter dash regional championship at Goshen Tuesday, May 27 with a 56.18-second finish. She was also part of the 4×400-meter relay regional championship team with a regional record 3:51.55 finish.

Claire Carlson, Jimtown softball

The sophomore pitched all 14 innings in the Jimmies’ two sectional games, combining to strike out 19 batters, allow 10 hits, two earned runs and one walk as Jimtown won its first 2A sectional championship since 2022. In a 9-1 regional championship loss to Andrean Tuesday, June 2, Carlson pitched seven innings, struck out six batters and allowed 12 hits, six earned runs, and four walks.

Brooklyn King, Jimtown girls track and field

The senior won the shot put regional championship at Goshen Tuesday, May 27 at 41-05 feet.

McKinley Platz, John Glenn softball

The senior combined for five RBIs, four hits, four runs, a double and a home run across two sectional games to help the Falcons win their second straight 3A sectional championship. Glenn also won 1-0 in a regional championship game vs. Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday, June 2.

Leon Fowler, Mishawaka boys track and field

The junior won the long jump regional championship at Warsaw Thursday, May 29 with a 23-05 feet distance.

Sully Kress, New Prairie baseball

The senior Saint Xavier University commit combined for three runs, two hits and two RBIs across two sectional games — and pitched a complete game shutout in seven innings with 10 strikeouts, two hits and two walks — as the Cougars won their fourth straight 3A sectional championship.

Brenden Olsen, Niles baseball

The senior University of Houston commit combined for two hits, two RBIs, two stolen bases, two walks, one run and one double across two MHSAA Division 2 district games as the Vikings won a district championship Saturday, May 30.

Baylor Miller, Northridge boys track

The senior Harvard University commit won the 800-meter run regional championship at Warsaw Thursday, May 29 with a 1:52.67 time. He also was on the championship-winning 4×400-meter and 4×800-meter relay teams.

Jaden Fisher, Northridge boys track

The senior Grand Valley State University commit won the 400-meter dash regional championship at Warsaw Thursday, May 29 with a 48.45-second time. He also was on the championship-winning 4×400-meter relay team.

Dakotah Moore, Northridge girls track

The senior Toledo University commit won the 3,200-meter run regional championship at Goshen Tuesday, May 27 with a 10:49.33 finish. She was also a part of the 4×800-meter relay regional championship.

Finley Miller, NorthWood baseball

The junior combined for six hits, five RBIs, three runs and a triple across three sectional games — and also pitched six and 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts, four hits, four walks, and three earned runs — as the Panthers won their third straight 3A sectional championship.

Cayden Stockbridge, Penn baseball

The senior Purdue University commit pitched a combined nine and 1/3 innings out of 19 possible innings across three sectional games, striking out 16, allowing six walks, one earned run and one hit as the Kingsmen won their second straight 4A sectional championship.

Ricky Rutland, Penn boys track

The senior won the 100-meter dash regional championship at Warsaw Thursday, May 29 with a 10.73-second time.

Caitlyn Denny, Penn softball

The senior University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff commit combined for 12 innings pitched across three sectional games — all of which went five innings — where she struck out 22 batters, allowed five hits, four walks and no earned runs as the Kingsmen won their 12th-straight 4A sectional championship. Denny also pitched seven innings, struck out nine batters and allowed five hits, three walks and two earned runs as the Kingsmen beat Elkhart 11-2 to win a 12th 4A regional championship in a row Tuesday, June 2.

Olivia Wu, Penn girls tennis

The sophomore advanced to the individual state finals at No. 1 singles by winning at team regionals to extend her season record to 18-1 and her state tournament record to 5-0.

Lauren Arevalo, Penn girls track and field

The sophomore won the pole vault regional championship at Goshen Tuesday, May 29 at 11-03 feet.

Shreya Nayee, Penn girls track

The sophomore won the 1,600-meter run regional championship at Goshen Tuesday, May 27 with a 5:05.77 time.

Getsemani Cruz, South Bend Adams girls track

The senior was a part of the regional championship-winning 4×100-meter relay team at Goshen Tuesday, May 27 with a 48.35 time. She also qualified for the state finals with a second-place 300-meter hurdles finish and second-place 4×400-meter dash finish.

Will Elick, South Bend Saint Joseph boys track

The junior won the 300-meter hurdles regional championship at Warsaw Thursday, May 29 with a school record 37.71-second time.

Libby Yergler, South Bend Saint Joseph girls tennis

The junior advanced to the individual state finals at No. 1 singles by winning at team regionals to extend her season record to 18-0 and her state tournament record to 5-0.

Lydia Goodsell, South Bend Saint Joseph girls track and field

The junior won the long jump regional championship at Goshen Tuesday, May 29 at 18-03.25 feet.

Adriana Swanson, South Bend Washington girls track

The senior Indiana University commit won the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles regional championships at Goshen Tuesday, May 27 with times of 13.85 and 43.72, respectively. The former was a regional record finish.
