MUNCIE, IN — A Muncie man who became the target of a manhunt after he fled from Delaware County sheriff’s deputies is in custody.
The search for 50-year-old Joshua Stephen Black began after he fled from deputies near the 1900 block of East Hamilton Drive about 4 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29.

He was captured late Tuesday morning, reportedly near Delta High School.
“Thanks to the diligence of the public and multiple calls to the sheriff’s office, deputies were able to quickly locate and safely apprehend the suspect,” Chief Deputy Jeff Stanley said. “We extend our gratitude to the residents who provided timely information and to the multiple assisting agencies whose quick action helped bring this case to a safe conclusion.”
Drones and police K-9s were used in the effort to find Black. Several law enforcement agencies assisted the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.
Black has been convicted of crimes including burglary, possession of meth, theft and false informing.
A warrant was issued for his arrest in early June after he failed to show up for a hearing in Delaware Circuit Court 5.
In that case, he was charged March 4 with possession of a narcotic drug, possession of meth, resisting law enforcement, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
