SOUTH BEND — Residents of Karl King Riverbend Tower apartment complex have been without necessary utilities, including heat, for several days, according to Portage Township Trustee Jason Critchlow.
Several residents of the complex, 515 E. Monroe St., have reported the difficulties, Critchlow said in a written news release.
South Bend city officials have said the situation is being addressed, working with property management through the city’s Code Enforcement office and Fire Department, Critchlow said, adding that property managers say they are hopeful to solve the situation soon.
“Our priority is the well-being and safety of residents,” Critchlow said. “Heat and utilities are not luxuries — they are basic necessities that protect health and dignity.
“We appreciate the city’s prompt attention and diligence in responding to this matter. Portage Township will continue to monitor developments closely and collaborate with the city to determine any additional actions that may be necessary to support affected residents.”
