Ross Dellenger is reporting that changes to the college football calendar could be coming

With the NCAA making a ruling on Name, Image, Likeness, revenge sharing and other new changes, Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports is reporting that there could be many changes to the college football calendar.

In his report, he mentions that any changes that could potentially occur will have a July 1st deadline, as teams will start preparing for 2026 then. Dellenger notes that “the majority of coaches want a 10-day portal period in early January,” while the Big Ten is pushing for an April date that coincides with the academic calendar.

The SEC doesn’t want a single portal window, as they would rather keep it with two, and Dellenger says that “a brewing fright is playing out over the issue” between the two power conferences. The new group of the House Implementation Committee “is expected to recommend a new calendar to the commissioners in the coming weeks.”

Not only that, there are conversations about the new salary cap and potentially changing the date when high school recruits sign their letters of intent. Dellenger claims that “one thing is clear: Signing day will move up significantly.” We have already seen significant changes with the early signing period, and that could factor into the decision of pushing a single signing day into June.

Spring practices could get moved as well, putting them more into the summer months of May and June as opposed to March and April. Teams would still be able to practice early, but would have the “flexibility to move a portion of the 15 spring practices to the summer.”

College football is well on its way to making significant changes to the way it is run, and it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
