RICHMOND, IN — A Richmond resident has been accused of threatening two men with a machete.
Antonio Lavar Jones, 46, was charged on Friday, Aug. 7, with two counts of intimidation, a Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison.
The two men said they were working along South Ninth Street that day when Jones removed a machete from a backpack, raised the weapon and asked the men what they were looking at.
An officer found Jones, with whom he was acquainted, walking along South B Street and approached him.
He reported Jones acknowledged having a machete in his backpack, and he denied having brandished it “before I ever asked what had happened,” the officer wrote in an affidavit.
According to the court document, Jones also denied his accusers’ claims that he had referred to them as “white boys,” maintaining he had instead called them a name commonly applied to female dogs.
The Richmond resident — who said he believed the other men were watching him — denied having threatened them with his machete.
Jones continued to be held in the Wayne County jail on Monday under a $20,000 bond.
A trial date has not yet been set in the Wayne Superior Court 1 case.
A day before his most recent arrest, Jones had been charged with theft, a misdemeanor, in Wayne Superior Court 3.
