RICHMOND, IN — A Richmond man has been accused of attacking and threatening his ex-girlfriend.
Kory Cecil Owens, 34, was charged on Tuesday, May 26, in Wayne Superior Court 1 with intimidation, domestic battery, interference with the reporting of a crime and criminal mischief.
The most serious of the four charges is a Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison.
On the morning of May 23, Owens’ ex-girlfriend reportedly told police he had repeatedly attacked, threatened and harassed her during the overnight hours.
The woman — who went to the Richmond Police Department — was taken by ambulance to Reid Hospital.
She told police that Owens had harassed and threatened her at two local taverns and then followed her from one place to another as she attempted to evade him.
The woman said the Richmond man at one point struck her vehicle with a crowbar and slapped her cell phone from her hand.
She also said he had entered her vehicle and “either slammed her head (against) the driver’s side window or steering wheel” and told her if she would not talk with him, he would kill her. When she arrived at the police station, the woman told officers her head “hurt badly.”
The woman also said Owens at some point during the night was “completely naked” when he held a “tiny silver handgun” to her head.
Owens was taken into custody after he was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run accident.
An initial hearing in his case is set for June 9.
On April 29, Owens was charged in Superior Court 1 with four counts of dealing in a controlled substance. His trial in that case is set for July 27.
According to court records, he has been convicted of crimes including aggravated battery, battery carrying a handgun without a license, possession of cocaine and resisting law enforcement.
