Purdue student's family members find him dead in Wood Street garage

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN — Family members of a Purdue University student found him dead Thursday afternoon in a car parked in the Wood Street parking garage.

Cameron Sible’s family was in town and expected to see him graduate, Purdue police Capt. Song Kang said.

Instead, relatives were looking for Sible, 22, of Burr Ridge, Illinois, when they found him about 4:20 p.m. Thursday, Kang said.

Sible was a senior majoring in civil engineering, Purdue University spokesman Trevor Peters said.

Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello said a forensic autopsy is scheduled for next week to determine the cause and manner of death. Scanner traffic Thursday indicated his death is a suspected suicide.

“We are saddened any time we experience a student’s death and offer our condolences and support to his family, fellow students, friends and all who are affected. As a reminder, Purdue offers mental health resources and support to all members of our campus community,” Peters said. Peters noted that students struggling may contact the Purdue Counseling & Psychological Services at 765-494-6995 or online at www.purdue.edu/caps/.
