Just three days after the Plymouth Community School Corporation officially approved Pamela Campbell as its new superintendent, and just one day after the Pilgrims’ boys golf team competed in the IHSAA state finals, Josh Troyer resigned as Plymouth High School’s athletic director on Thursday, June 18.
This resignation is effective July 3, per a press release shared by Plymouth High School principal Jacob Singleton. As first reported by Doug Griffiths of The Pilot News, Troyer is set to become the next athletic director at Winamac High School. Troyer was unable to explicitly confirm or deny the report to the South Bend Tribune.
“I’m not being forced out,” Troyer said in a phone call interview. “I’m taking a different opportunity. I feel like I’m doing what’s best for my family and myself … “I’m just excited for what’s next. It’s bittersweet. I think I’m a better AD today than I was before, and I’m looking forward to applying that to my next step.”
During Troyer’s three years as athletic director, Plymouth compiled three IHSAA championships in team sports − two sectional titles and one regional crown. In addition to his role as athletic director, Troyer was also the varsity girls golf head coach. Prior to his time at Plymouth, which was his first time as an athletic director, he was Manchester High School’s varsity girls basketball and girls golf head coach.
“I’m really thankful for Plymouth High School taking a flyer on me when I was young, inexperienced and had never been an AD,” Troyer said. “I’m thankful for our coaches; they’ve done a lot of work, they’ve put a lot of time in with our athletes … We have a lot of great kids here who are doing great things.”
This is the eighth administrative/head coaching job opening within the last 12 months for Plymouth’s Athletic Department, including the football head coaching position twice and the still-vacant Athletic Admin Assistant role, which recently opened due to the retirement of Gwen Kriss.
