EVANSVILLE — Planned Parenthood is closing its Evansville location, citing a need to consolidate resources as it faces continued challenges.
Those include “rising costs, low reimbursement rates, the lasting effects of COVID-19, the aftermath of the Dobbs decision, and targeted attacks on reproductive health care,” according to a news release from the organization.
The Evansville health clinic at 125 N. Weinbach Ave. will permanently close to in-person appointments. The last day of service will be Sept. 4.
“This decision was not made lightly and reflects a careful evaluation of patient needs, access to care, and the challenges facing sexual and reproductive health care today,” the news release states. “Reducing our health center footprint and transitioning care to telehealth where possible will allow us to sustain Planned Parenthood’s mission and access to care across the six-state region for years to come.”
Will I be able to access telehealth?
Yes. Residents in Evansville will be able to still do video visits, as well as access to the Planned Parenthood app to communicate via chat.
According to Planned Parenthood, with video visits patients can still access birth control, emergency contraception, gender-affirming hormone care, HIV services, and pregnancy options counseling through video visits with a dotor.
Telehealth appointments can be made on the Indiana virtual health center pages.
With the Planned Parenthood Direct App, Indiana patients can access birth control options, emergency contraception and UTI treatment.
I need to see a doctor in-person, what do I do?
Planned Parenthood has put together a list of other local providers who can offer services.
This includes gender affirming hormone care and PreP providers at Evansville Affirm Health & Wellness and Matthew 25 AIDS Services.
But I want to continue in-person service with Planned Parenthood. What do I do?
In this case, the closest health clinics will now be in New Albany or Bloomington.
