Rick Carlisle will turn 67 years old early in the 2026-27 season. What thought has he given to post-Indiana Pacers life?
Though he plays piano, flies airplanes and is an avid golfer, the longtime coach is still having a blast on the sideline despite the roller-coaster nature of his job.
“Nobody wants to overstay their welcome. I’ve got several more years on my contract. I still love it,” Carlisle said recently on Draymond Green’s podcast. “It’s a pleasure to go to work every day. … I’m going to ride this as long as I can.”
Carlisle is entering his 25th season of NBA coaching, his sixth in his second stint with the Pacers. They reached Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals but had their worst record in franchise history in 2025-26 under an avalanche of injuries.
Carlisle signed a multiyear contract extension to coach the Pacers in 2025 for at least through the upcoming season.
