One of Indiana Fever's newest additions heating up after 'giving myself grace'

INDIANAPOLIS — After spending much of the season adjusting to a new role, Indiana Fever forward Monique Billings is beginning to find her rhythm.

Billings followed a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double against the Phoenix Mercury on Monday with another productive outing Saturday against the Los Angeles Sparks, scoring 15 points and grabbing six rebounds while providing an energetic spark off the bench.

“I think just consistency, just showing up, trusting the process, giving myself grace because it’s been an adjustment for me,” Billings said after Saturday’s win. “This is a new team, trying to find my identity here on the floor.”

The UCLA graduate signed with the Fever as a free agent before the 2026 season after spending last year with the Golden State Valkyries during the franchise’s inaugural campaign. Through her first season in Indiana, Billings is averaging 6.3 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting 47.9% from the field.

Her transition has not been seamless. A natural center, Billings spent much of the season learning to play power forward, leading to fluctuating minutes as she adjusted to a new system.

Recently, however, she has looked increasingly comfortable on the court.

“It hasn’t been the easiest, but again, just trusting my work, trusting the process, having super high energy and just trying to play with joy as much as I can,” Billings said.

Her recent performances are a reminder of the veteran experience she brings in her ninth WNBA season. Drafted 15th overall by the Atlanta Dream in 2018, Billings has also built an extensive international resume, playing professionally on three different continents. During the 2025 offseason, she also competed in Unrivaled alongside Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell.

After Monday’s double-double, Billings credited her performance to “good energy” and “good hustle.” She also shared that meditation has helped her stay grounded throughout the adjustment process.

Now, with a week of strong performances, Billings appears to be settling into her role and giving the Fever valuable production off the bench at a pivotal point in the season.
