SOUTH BEND — Venue Parks & Arts is hosting a family-friendly Independence Day celebration at Howard and Seitz parks from 4 to 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 3.
The event is set to include live music, outdoor activities, food and a firework display at the end of the night, according to a VPA press release.
Several food options will be available, including M.E.X Snack Cart, 3 Bro’s Exotic, Los Humildes Mexican Restaurant, Sippin’ Dirty, Nom Pan, Sam’s 62, Countertop Creations, Froggies Concessions and Alisha Sweets.
The city’s provided schedule of events at Howard Park is as follows:
● 4 to 5 p.m.: Free family activities including tie dye, crafts, coloring and yard games. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own items to tie dye, but a limited number of white cotton bags will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
● 6 to 8 p.m.: Concert series featuring Day Train.
● 8 to 9:30 p.m.: Outdoor showing of “The Incredibles,” sponsored by Visit South Bend Mishawaka. The fireworks display will start after the movie.
At 7 p.m., DJ Gino J from The New Mix 102.3 will be playing at Seitz Park.
Because of the lack of shade at Howard Park, the city is encouraging residents to bring tents or umbrellas; however, staking tents into the ground is not allowed.
The city recommends that attendees watch the fireworks show at Howard Park, Seitz Park or the Colfax Avenue Bridge.
