Notre Dame baseball entered this weekend 7-3 and had a five-game winning streak, and while that stopped, the winning ways didn’t.
The Irish took two-of-three games from the Duke Blue Devils, starting the ACC portion of its schedule on a great note. Friday night saw the bats come alive, and its ace, Jack Radel carrying the load. The starter went 7-innings, allowing just one run with nine strikeouts. Bino Waters and Mark Quantrani led the offense each hitting a homer
It very well could have been a sweep, but Saturday game went to the home team. Duke trailed 4-3 at the end of seven innings, but was able to scratch out a 6-5 win by scoring three times in the ninth inning. This was a game that the Irish would have love to have back.
It didn’t discourage them on Sunday, as Notre Dame rebounded with a 2-0 triumph to take the series. Starter Ty Uber went 5.2-innings striking out eight and keeping Duke off the scoreboard. Drew Berkland hit a homer, as the Irish’s bats did enough for the win.
Notre Dame will be back on the field on Tuesday, as they’ll play Queens in Charlotte, North Carolina. They’ll continue to stay on the road during the weekend as a visit to Louisville is next on the schedule.
