NFL power rankings Week 5: Indianapolis Colts 'could be undefeated' and have believers

The Indianapolis Colts suffer their first loss of the season and … pick up passengers on their bandwagon?!

The Colts committed three turnovers (their first of the season), had two rough plays by Adonai Mitchell (potentially negating 14 points) and had 10 defenders on the field while allowing a long touchdown — and still had a real chance to beat the Los Angeles Rams.

That’s why they have believers in the newest round of NFL power rankings.

NFL power rankings Week 5: Colts have believers despite loss

Pete Prisco, CBS Sports: 11th, down 2 positions from last week

“If only Adonai Mitchell hadn’t dropped the ball going into the end zone to cost them a touchdown. They could be undefeated.”

Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News: 11th, up 1 place

“The Colts hit a tougher defense on the road and Daniel Jones was pressured down to earth with Jonathan Taylor being contained. Indianapolis is still part of a two-team race to take the AFC South.”

Frank Schwab, Yahoo: 10th, up 1 spot

“Losing at the Rams isn’t bad, but the way the Colts lost is inexcusable. Adonai Mitchell simply dropped the ball before scoring, he took a massive holding penalty that wiped out a Jonathan Taylor touchdown, then there were only 10 men on the field for the Rams’ winning 88-yard TD. None of that should happen.”

Diante Lee, The Ringer: 11th, unchanged

“Daniel Jones threw two interceptions, but he was not the reason the Colts lost to the Rams on the road in Week 4. In fact, Jones’ play was remarkably steady after his turnover on the game’s opening drive, and he did enough as a passer to give Indianapolis a lead and full control of the game entering the fourth quarter.

“If Colts receiver Adonai Mitchell doesn’t fumble on the way into the end zone (or if Indianapolis didn’t have a touchdown run by Jonathan Taylor negated by a holding penalty), the Colts likely cruise to a win. I feel fine with the Colts staying on the cusp of the top 10, and wouldn’t be surprised if they make a leap in the near future.”

Connor Orr, Sports Illustrated: 10th, unchanged

“I left Sunday’s Colts loss more confident in the team than when I entered the day. It took gaffes of epic proportions, not to mention the defense leaving a man off the field and having another trip on the long Tutu Atwell touchdown, to lose. Daniel Jones was under pressure on half of his snaps and hasn’t yet turned back into a pumpkin.”

Nate Davis, USA TODAY: 11th, unchanged

“Four punts Sunday and their first three turnovers of the 2025 season? Yet if it seems like the wheels came off this Cinderella carriage simultaneously, don’t forget that Indy is quite likely two poor plays from WR Adonai Mitchell away from being 4-0.”

Ralph Vacchiano, Fox Sports: 12th, up 1

“Daniel ‘Indiana’ Jones threw two interceptions, including a terrible one with 53 seconds left, but the Rams still needed two touchdowns in the last 3:20 to give the Colts their first loss. It looks like Indy is here to stay.”

The Athletic: 11th, down 3

“Tyler Warren, the No. 14 pick, leads all tight ends this year with 263 receiving yards. Only two rookie wide receivers (Emeka Egbuka and Tetairoa McMillan) have more yards than the Penn State product. He got his first career touchdown on Sunday against the Rams with a 2-yard rush.”
