Deputies found two vehicles with significant front-end damage: a blue Chevrolet Tahoe SUV and a grey Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The Tundra had caught fire, but the driver was able to escape before the fire spread. The driver of the Tahoe required extrication by the Vanderburgh County Fire Department.

Both motorists were transported by ambulance to a local hospital, but the driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe later died as a result of injuries. He was identified by the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office as Jacob Offerman, 35.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation with the aid of a crash reconstructionist who responded to the scene.

“As required by Indiana law in all crashes involving a fatality or serious bodily injury, the driver of the Toyota Tundra will undergo a chemical test,” stated a news release from the sheriff’s office. “While the results are pending, alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected as contributing factors at this time.”

Big Cynthiana Road was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene.
