A Greencastle, Indiana, man drowned Saturday on Rainbow Lake in Perry County, according to a preliminary autopsy report.
The Perry County Sheriff’s Office reported Central Dispatch received a call for service at Rainbow Lake at 2:31 p.m. Saturday.
“Central Dispatch was advised that there was a male on a raft that may have been experiencing a medical emergency,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “The caller advised dispatch that the male subject was hanging over the raft and his head was in the water.”
Perry County sheriff’s deputies and first responders responded to the scene and found Greencastle resident Jason A. Briscoe unresponsive. First responders administered CPR, but ultimately the Perry County Coroner’s Office pronounced Briscoe dead.
An autopsy was performed on Sunday, with a preliminary report showing Briscoe died from drowning.
“More information will be available once the autopsy report has been completed,” the Perry County Sheriff’s Office stated. “This incident is still under investigation.”
The Sheriff’s Office stated that it received assistance from the United States Forest Service, Perry County EMS, Perry County Emergency Management, Central Dispatch, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Perry County Coroner’s Office.
