PORTLAND, IN — A Jay County man has been accused of threatening a local judge and an attorney who at that point was representing him.
Shannon P. Kuhn, 23, of Bryant, is charged in Jay Circuit Court with three counts of intimidation: one Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison, one Level 6 felony with a maximum 30-month sentence, and a misdemeanor.
According to court documents, Kuhn on June 18 threatened Jay Superior Court Judge Gail Dues, public defender Rachel Walker and a third person.
The documents did not detail what the threats consisted of, or how they were delivered.
Last year, Kuhn was convicted of pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony, in Dues’ court. In September, he received a one-year jail term, with all but two days already spent in the Jay County Jail suspended. He was also placed on probation for a year.
That case was based on an allegation Kuhn pointed a handgun at his brother during a disagreement.
On June 18, a Jay County probation officer reported he had found THC vapes in Kuhn’s Bryant home, along with “a large machete-type bladed weapon.”
An earlier blood screen had reportedly indicated Kuhn had THC, the chemical associated with marijuana, in his system.
The officer’s findings resulted in Kuhn being accused of probation violations.
They also resulted in Kuhn being charged in Jay Circuit Court with possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.
Local court officials have recused themselves from handling Kuhn’s cases. Samuel Conrad, judge of Adams Superior Court, and Jeremy Nix, Huntington County prosecutor, have been assigned to the cases.
