Indianapolis 500 open test: Rookie has the fastest lap today, April 29

Indianapolis 500 open testing concluded Wednesday, April 29, on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval. The morning session was delayed by more than an hour because of track drying in the wake of overnight rain. Cloudy skies and temperatures in the 50s greeted the 33 entrants, while the sun peeked through and temps reached the 60s in the afternoon.

Rookie Caio Collet produces the fastest lap in the morning session, with two-time champ Josef Newgarden close behind. In the afternoon, Jack Harvey’s car catches fire, but he is unhurt.
