Indiana Peony Festival postponed to Sunday due to weather

The Indiana Peony Festival has been moved to Sunday, May 17, due to rain and winds, according to a news release from the City of Noblesville.

Festival hours are still set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the festival will still take place at Noblesville’s Seminary Park in the city’s downtown.

“We support the festival’s decision to postpone until Sunday,” Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen said in the news release. “While we can’t control the weather, this adjustment helps ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. The city is ready to support the festival’s efforts for tomorrow, and we look forward to welcoming visitors to enjoy the event on Sunday.”

The Indiana Peony Festival is held every May on the weekend before Memorial Day and is free and open to the public. The goal of the festival is to inspire Indiana residents statewide to celebrate the peony, the state flower.

Showers and storms are expected over much of the day on May 16, with a few strong to severe storms during the afternoon and evening hours across Indiana, according to the National Weather Service’s office.

There’s a low threat of damaging winds, and even lower threat of flooding and hail across Indiana on May 16, according to the NWS.

The weather for May 17 is expected to be favorable for the festival.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected before 7 a.m. in Central Indiana on May 17, but then conditions are expected to be partly sunny and then sunny with a high near 86 degrees, according to the NWS.
