Indiana football was sloppy early, and had injuries to overcome, but turned in another dominant performance.
The No. 2 Hoosiers cruised to a 55-10 victory over Maryland on Saturday at SECU Stadium in College Park, Maryland. They improved to 9-0, 6-0 in Big Ten play.
Each Mendoza brother threw for a touchdown, but it was a dominant ground game that took over, and a defense that forced five turnovers and scored 24 points off them.

Garrett Reese recovers a fumble. How many IU football turnovers today?
Freshman Garrett Reese came in and was penalized for a late hit, but it was taken off as the play was overturned for a fumble that Reese recovered.
That led to kneeldowns and the game ending.

Fishers grad Khobie Martin was the fourth Hoosier to score a rushing touchdown. He has 80 yards rushing on 11 carries. Solomon Vanhorse even got in the game with a pair of carries for 14 yards.
Alberto Mendoza had a 55-yard run on the drive and his brother Fernando was loving it.

Devan Boykin continued a strong game with a pair of great coverages near the goal line that forced Maryland into a turnover on downs.

Maryland transfer Roman Hemby had a pair of lead blocks, bounced off a would-be tackler and fell into the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown. That’s three scores in 2 minutes, 6 seconds for IU.

Maryland threw a screen pass and it was punched out by Jamari Sharpe who was in pursuit, and then recovered by Byron Baldwin Jr. to give IU the ball at the Maryland 24.

Devan Boykin stripped Maryland freshman quarterback Malik Washington, scooped it up and ran 33 yards for a touchdown, front-flipping into the endzone.

The Hoosiers ran an outside zone run and Kaelon Black found a seam and bounced outside for a 31-yard touchdown run for a fifth straight scoring drive. It’s Black’s fourth rushing TD of the season.

A couple Hoosiers defenders fell as DeJuan Williams caught a pass about 12 yards down field that resulted in a 55-yard score by the time he was finished running. Quarterback Malik Washington had scrambled to his left, drew several IU defenders that left an opening for Williams.

Elijah Sarratt injury update. Kaiden Turner injury update
IU leading receiver Elijah Sarratt will not return to IU’s game at Maryland, ending his streak of consecutive games with a reception at 46. CBS sideline reporter Jenny Dell said the it was a precaution and it isn’t expected to be a long-term injury.
Kaiden Turner is questionable to return with a pulled calf, Dell said.

Fernando Mendoza has been pressured a few times today, including on this drive, and has been hit as he was trying to throw. That led to a third-and-5 attempt that fell incomplete. Nico Radicic nailed a 46-yard field goal to make it four straight scoring drives.

It was a great throw by Malik Washington, but safety Louis Moore came over the top of the Terps’ receiver for a brilliant interception. IU will take over at its own 16 after Moore winning the 50-50 ball.

So, both teams have scored a field goal off the other’s interception. IU drove 76 yards on eight plays but opted to kick a 20-yard field goal by Nico Radicic on fourth-and-1. A 52-yard reception by Charlie Becker moved the Hoosiers into the red zone.

Kahlil Benson injury update: Indiana football offensive lineman hurt on touchdown
The Hoosiers are already without Drew Evans at left guard, with Zen Michalski starting in his place, and Kahlil Benson just limped to the IU sideline after Mendoza’s touchdown run.
So that’s no Fisher, Evans, kickoff specialist Brendan Franke, an injured Elijah Sarratt and now Benson.

Maryland’s defense split like the red sea and Pat Coogan led Fernando Mendoza through an empty field into the end zone for an 8-yard touchdown run. It was a 13-play, 93-yard drive, which included a 22-yard run by Mendoza.

It’s the third drive for IU’s offense and Elijah Sarratt is already in the injury tent a second time, per CBS. Charlie Becker is playing in his place. There is not further information on what Sarratt is dealing with at this time.
Aiden Fisher injury update: He was a game-time decision per CBS
CBS Sports reported that Aiden Fisher was dealing with a lower-body injury that “seemed to be focused around his knee,” sideline reporter Jenny Dell said. He was a game-time decision after Curt Cignetti said Monday he figured Fisher would be “probable” for the game. Fisher warmed up pregame but does not have his helmet and is listening to plays through an earpiece.
