SOUTH BEND — The South Bend Human Rights Commission is hosting an open house Wednesday, June 10 for members of the community to learn about the services offered.
The event is at the Howard Park Event Center 219 S. St. Louis Blvd from 3 to 6 p.m.
“We want to let the public know what it is that we do in our office, what resources we offer and how they can either attend one of our training workshops or if they need to speak with someone about a potential issue or if they feel that they have been discriminated against in some way,” said Katrina Lee, executive director of the Human Rights Commission.
It’s “an opportunity for them not to have to come to our office,” Lee said.
There will be games, snacks and an opportunity for residents to ask questions. Lee told The Tribune there will be a roped off, private section where people can submit a claim onsite.
“I think we’re one of the best-kept secrets in the city,” Lee said in a phone call with The Tribune. “We are here to help everyone. We do not advocate for any party, and I think that’s a large misconception, and we don’t. We’re on the side of justice. We are a fact-finding, neutral agency.”
