The Indiana Fever open the 2025 regular season with a familiar foe from last season: the Chicago Sky.
In 2024, the two teams developed a rivalry, which was partially due to Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. Both entered the WNBA last season and made a major impact.
Clark was a near-unanimous pick for Rookie of the Year, garnering 66 of the 67 votes. The other player to get a vote was Reese, who missed the final five games of the season after undergoing wrist surgery.
While Clark sat out of the team’s first preseason game, she is not listed on the injury report. Though newcomer Sophie Cunningham has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

Indiana Fever vs Chicago Sky expert prediction, picks for today, May 17
Chloe Peterson’s prediction: Fever 85, Sky 76
“The Fever and the Sky went through similar offseasons ahead of 2025 opening day. They both hired new coaches, built new staffs, and brought in a lot veteran talent — including re-signing a former player.
“But I think the differences will come in the backcourt. Caitlin Clark is seen as one of the best (if not the best) guards in the league, and pairing her with Kelsey Mitchell for year two together is a lethal combination. Pairing those two with veterans DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard, along with Aliyah Boston in the frontcourt, could be unstoppable if it all comes together as they want it to.
“The Fever also have the edge in coaching. Stephanie White, returning new to the Fever this year, has ample coaching experience. She brought the Fever to the finals in her first year as a WNBA head coach in 2015, then brought the Connecticut Sun to the semifinals each of the two years she was there in 2023 and ’24. Chicago’s Tyler Marsh, while highly decorated as an assistant on the two-time champion Las Vegas staff, is a first-time head coach. It will take some adjustment for him, especially in his first regular-season game.”
