Here's what the National Weather Service is saying about this week's heat wave

Summertime has arrived in the Tri-State and, to borrow a line from Nuke LaLoosh: It is announcing its presence with authority.

The National Weather Service says Mother Nature will continue to bring the heat all week. A heat advisory is in effect for the entire region through Friday evening, with daily heat index values up to 106 degrees expected.

“Prolonged exposure to hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses,” the weather service said in an advisory Sunday night. “Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.”

Monday will be the hottest day of the week

The high temperature in the Evansville/Henderson area is expected to reach 97 degrees on Monday, with a heat index reaching 106 degrees,.

The rest of the week will feel nearly as hot, with high temperatures ranging from 95 degrees on Tuesday to 96 degrees on Thursday. The heat index will be slightly lower Tuesday through Friday, ranging from 103 (Tuesday) to 101 (Friday).

Rain? Not for a while

Rain chances are slim until the weekend, with the best shot on Tuesday (15 percent) and Friday (20 percent). those chances rise to 40-45 percent over the weekend.

When will the heat wave break?

Things may get slightly better over the weekend, with highs in the lower 90s. The National Weather Service’s eight- to 14-day outlook calls for slightly above average temperature and slightly above average precipitation chances from June 30 through July 6.
