Former Penn HS color guard coach faces sexual misconduct charge

A former Penn High School color guard coach has been charged with sexual misconduct with a minor, a Level 5 felony, after she allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.

According to online court records, Breanna Schooley, 20, is not currently in jail after paying her almost $15,000 bond June 18.

The Tribune’s reporting partner WNDU says that the charging paperwork reports the victim initially denied that anything happened during a forensic interview but later disclosed the relationship after detectives found deleted Instagram messages on her phone.

According to WNDU, while interviewing with detectives, Schooley reportedly admitted the relationship exceeded normal coach and student relationships by becoming physical.

Detectives learned that the sexual contact allegedly occurred in mid-March 2025 in a bathroom/locker room at Penn High School, WNDU reports.

The charging paperwork says Schooley described two separate incidents to investigators, WNDU says, with the first involving kissing and the second escalating to sexual contact. Schooley was 19 years old at the time of the alleged incidents.

Penn-Harris-Madison School Corp. officials told WNDU that Schooley was employed by the district as a color guard coach during the 2024-25 school year, but she was not a direct district employee and did not work for Penn Band in the 2025-26 school year.

Online records indicate that Schooley entered a not guilty plea June 17 and is due to appear in court for her initial hearing at 9 a.m. July 1.
