Former Park Tudor coach Tim Adams hired at Bishop Chatard. 'Hungry for success.'

It did not take Tim Adams long to find a new job.

Adams, after stepping down as boys basketball coach and assistant athletic director at Park Tudor earlier this month, was named the new boys basketball coach at Bishop Chatard on Thursday.

“I think the biggest thing that appealed to me (about Chatard) is when I met with the administration prior to accepting the job that our vision aligned on and off the floor,” Adams said. “We want to win in the classroom, in the community and on the court. The standard and expectation is for them to leave better young men than when they got here. The community and family at Chatard is second to none, which is something I’ve missed the last couple of years.”

Adams led Park Tudor to a 115-66 record in eight seasons, winning two sectional championships and one regional title. Chatard does not have the same recent winning tradition as Park Tudor in basketball; the Trojans enjoyed back-to-back winning seasons in 2021-22 and 2022-23 but are coming off three consecutive losing seasons, including an 8-16 mark last year.

But Chatard did show improvement last year in Matt Boling’s second season as coach. The Trojans won four of their final five games before losing 66-62 to Crispus Attucks in the Class 3A sectional semifinal. The Trojans have a large class of seniors to be, including guard Ari Sahm (15.2 ppg, 5.1 ppg) and 6-9 Zach McCormack (10.3 ppg, 7.3 rebounds).

“I know them from coaching against them the last couple of years,” Adams said. “Some of the faces I saw (Thursday) when I met with them were familiar. We’ll be a veteran team mixed in with some youth as well.”

Adams, a Cathedral graduate, grew up playing in the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) at St. Pius X. He plans to place an emphasis on developing relationships within the CYO feeder programs.

“That’s what I was,” Adams said. “I went to St. Pius and Cathedral and went to those camps and clinics and played in those gyms as a younger player. There are a lot of connections we still have in those gyms, and it will be a huge positive for us to retain those kids.”

Adams will also be an assistant athletic director at Chatard. The Trojans have not won a sectional title since the 2003-04 season, a year after winning their only state title.

“They are hungry for success,” Adams said of the basketball program. “They want success not just in the city but the sectional, too.”
