Guyton guides South Bend Saint Joseph to IHSAA boys golf sectional title

The South Bend Saint Joseph boys golf team earned a sectional title Friday, June 5, to claim the hardware at the Riley Sectional at Erskine Park.

The Huskies shot 303 to earn the top spot in the 10-team field. Elkhart, which won the title in 2025, was runner-up with a team total of 306 and Trinity Academy South Bend shot 312 to claim third place.

The top three teams advance to the Lake Central Regional June 11 at the Sandy Pines Golf Club in Demotte. The Lake Central Regional includes the top three teams from sectionals at Riley, Valparaiso, LaPorte, Lake Central and Logansport.

The 1-2 punch of Tate Guyton and Zach Matthys led the way for the champion Huskies, who finished third in the sectional field in 2025. Senior Guyton and junior Matthys each shot a round of 73 with Guyton claiming individual medalist honors by winning in a playoff.

Sophomore Ben Divido shot a 76 for Elkhart, as did freshman Brendon Divido and junior Cameron Miller.

Freshman Gabe Palmer fired a 74 to lead the way for Trinity, which was sectional runner-up a year ago.

The trio of seniors Corbin O’Hara and Cooper Petty of Penn and senior Alan Bishop of Mishawaka Marian also advanced to the regional round as individuals. O’Hara shot a 74, Petty a 77 and Bishop a 76.

Penn was fourth in the final team standings with a 314. South Bend Adams was fifth with a 329, followed by Marian (338), Mishawaka (342), Jimtown (356), South Bend Riley (419) and South Bend Washington (498). LaVille did not field a complete team.

Senior Trenton Williams led Adams with an 82. Freshman Sullivan Mammolenti paced Mishawaka with an 80, while senior Jack Kite shot an 84 for Jimtown. Junior Isaac Riem led Riley with a 94, while senior Robert Caradine led Washington with a 117 and freshman Lucas Kreske shot an 82 for LaVille.

Raiders rule own sectional

Host Northridge shot itself to the top of the sectional scoreboard Friday at the Meadow Valley Golf Course in Middlebury.

The Raiders shot 329 to claim the sectional team title. Westview was second with a 337, with Fairfield claiming third place with a 340.

The top three teams advance to the Warsaw Regional June 11. They will be joined by the top teams from sectionals at East Noble, Warsaw, Fort Wayne Canterbury and Peru.

Luke Haarer of Westview was individual medalist with a round of 73. Cooper Kropf fired a 75 and Kaden Miller and 81 to lead the way for champion Northridge.

The trio of Caleb Vincent of NorthWood (80), Isaac Pfahler of Goshen (81) and Nathan Potter of Concord (83) advanced as individuals.

NorthWood finished in fourth place in the team standings at 350. Concord was fifth with a 360, follosed by Lakeland (366), Goshen (366), Bethany Christian (380), Elkhart Christian Academy (393), Prairie Heights (396), West Noble (409) and Bremen (411).

Slicers, Marquette advance

Both host LaPorte and Marquette Catholic earned regional spots by placing 2-3 respectively June 4 at the LaPorte Sectional held at Beechwood.

South Central claimed the team title with a 328. LaPorte was second at 334 with Marquette third at 345.

Lukas Albin of the Slicers was sectional medalist with a 75. Aedan Hassett led Marquette with a 78. Jack Haschel and Michael Filo each shot a 78 to lead champion South Central.

Advancing as individuals from non-qaulifying teams were Derek Krassow of New Prairie (81), along with Micah Fleck of John Glenn (81) and Elijah Green of Michigan City (84).

Teams and individuals from the LaPorte and South Bend sectionals advance to the regional this Thursday, June 11, at Sandy Pines Golf Course in DeMotte.
