Former Colts head coach Frank Reich has returned to the NFL, coming back as the offensive coordinator of the New York Jets after three seasons away from the league.
Reich stepped away from coaching for a season in 2024, contemplating retirement after his second head coaching stint in Carolina.
But he was brought back to coaching last season by his former Indianapolis quarterback, Andrew Luck, who called Reich to step into a tumultuous situation as Stanford’s interim head coach following the firing of Troy Taylor.
The Cardinal went 4-8 with Reich at the helm in 2025. Reich moved into a senior advisory role with Stanford, as planned, after the Cardinal hired Tavita Pritchard this offseason.
Then the Jets came calling.
New York head coach Aaron Glenn was looking for experience, and he tabbed the 64-year-old Reich after two interviews over the last week.
“Frank has a rare combination of experience, creativity, and calm under pressure,” said Glenn, who was a teammate of Reich’s with the 1996 New York Jets. “He’s lived this game from every angle — as a quarterback in this league and as a coach who’s led offenses at the highest level. He is unique in his ability to see the game for what it is right now and adapt when appropriate. Frank understands offense and how to utilize the strengths of players. I am looking forward to how he will help this team have success.”
Reich went 40-33-1 in four-plus seasons as the Colts’ head coach, then compiled a 1-10 record with Carolina before he was fired early.
