BATTLE CREEK – The team success is the main thing. But, when the team wins, there comes some individual success and that is what is happening surrounding the Harper Creek football program.
Harper Creek is coming off back-to-back league titles. And, two players that were on the roster for both of those seasons are now building off that success to continue their football careers at the college level.
Harper Creek seniors Cameron Converse and Kowen Slucter each announced their commitment to play college football at a signing day ceremony at Harper Creek High School in conjunction with the signing day period, which opened Wednesday.

Converse has committed to play at Alma College and Slucter has committed to play at Adrian College, both Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Division III schools.
“Both of these players had opportunities to play at Lawrence Tech and play at the NAIA level, but they chose the Division III route and both Adrian and Alma are both quality programs,” Harper Creek football coach Mason Converse said. “Signings like this tells us we are doing something right. We have been fortunate that we have had good players, and good teams. And when you have that, people notice and it makes a difference in helping players get these opportunities.”
Slucter is heading to Adrian to play running back. Slucter earned all-league and all-city honors on one of the top teams as he helped Harper Creek to an 8-1 regular season record and a second-straight Interstate 8 Conference title. He had 55 tackles as a defensive lineman. He also earned important yards at running back with almost 700 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns.
Converse is heading to Alma to play linebacker. Converse was a two-time all-city and all-league selection and earned all-state recognition as one of the top linebackers in the area. A two-way player, Converse led the Beavers with 99 tackles on defense and added 574 yards rushing, 166 yards receiving and a total of six touchdowns at running back.
“More than anything else, today was about helping them realize their boyhood dreams of playing at the next level,” Mason Converse said.
