Democratic candidate Hodge Patel runs for South Bend Common Council

SOUTH BEND — Hodge Patel announced his Democratic campaign for 4th District South Bend Common Council on Friday, May 15. Patel is the former state director for former U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly and the former regional director for former Indiana Gov. and Sen. Evan Bayh.

His run comes after 4th District Councilmember Troy Warner left the role to take a position as South Bend Mayor James Mueller’s chief of staff, as The Tribune has previously reported. Heidi Beidinger announced her campaign for the seat May 12.

“I am excited to once again enter public service after 22 years serving in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate to help the city I have proudly called home for more than 28 years,” Patel said in a press release.

Patel has themed his campaign “LEAD,” which is how, he said, he intends to approach the role: listen, engage, accessible and deliver results.

In 2020, Patel ran for the 3rd District St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners but lost to former incumbent Republican Deb Flemming.

Patel launched Capitol Consulting Solutions to help businesses and private organizations connect with policy makers, according to the website. He is currently the business and government strategy director at Abonmarche.

The St. Joseph County Democrats will caucus to pick Warner’s successor at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Howard Park Event Center Ribbon Town Room, 219 S. St. Louis Blvd.
