MUNCIE, IN — Democrat Ken Mace has announced he will be a candidate for the District 3 seat on the Delaware County Board of Commissioners.
Mace was chief probation officer of the Delaware County Juvenile Court for 32 years and served as the county’s chief of adult probation for four years.
Since retiring from his probation duties, he has worked as an instructional assistant at Delta Middle School for two years and was a juvenile investigator on Prosecutor Eric Hoffman’s staff for one year.
Mace is a lifelong resident of Delaware County and graduated from Ball State University and Cowan High School. He and his wife, Cindy, are parents of three adult children.
“With the support of my wife, and the encouragement of my family and friends, I decided to become a candidate out of a desire to help make Delaware County an even better place to live and work,” Mace said in a news release. “Being a county department head for three decades, I became familiar with the workings and responsibilities of the commissioners’ office.”
Mace said his goals in office would include “improving the relationships with the towns in our county; assisting local farmers, who have long served as the backbone of our county; being an advocate for the employees of county government; and serving all residents of Delaware County to the best of my ability.”
Mace filed his candidacy on Thursday, Jan. 15. He said he will hold a campaign “callout” event in coming weeks.

The District 3 commissioner’s seat is now held by Republican Shannon Henry, who has said he will not be a candidate for re-election.
Republican Matt Kantz, now a member of Delaware County Council, is seeking his party’s nomination for the commissioner’s seat.
