Delta wrestler Kaid Jackson has been voted The Star Press East Central Indiana high school Athlete of the Week, brought to you by IU Health.
Jackson won the 113-pound weight class bracket at the Hoosier Heritage Conference Championships on Saturday, Jan. 17. He won his first two matches via technical fall — 18-1 over New Castle’s Jaxon Shelton in the first round and 21-6 over Mt. Vernon’s Zachary Wilson in the semifinals. Jackson emerged in a 5-3 decision over New Palestine’s Blake Doss in the conference championship bout. He helped Delta to a third-place team finish.
Jackson received 5,868 out of 9,434 votes cast (62.2%). This week’s runner-up was New Castle wrestler Tylin Thrine, who gathered 697 votes (7.39%).
Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated and can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport. Athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks.
