The Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame has two major events coming up this summer that have deadlines approaching in order to participate.
The 28th annual DCAHOF golf outing, the main fundraiser during the year for the non-profit organization, will be Friday, July 24 at Crestview Golf Club. The next day, July 25, the 46th dinner and induction ceremony will welcome 11 new members to its hall of fame.
“The golf outing serves as one of the main fundraisers for our organization,” DCAHOF vice president Kaye Harrell said. “Part of the proceeds from this golf outing are used to fund the Francis Lafferty Hall of Fame Scholarship.in the amount of $3,500.
“The DCAHOF has also been able to secure eight additional scholarships given by families as memorials or for high school seniors who participate in specific sports. In total, all scholarships given provide $17,250 a year. Additional proceeds from the golf outing are used to continue to improve and maintain the physical home for the DCAHOF.”
Entry fee and hole sponsorships, and tickets for the induction banquet, can be purchased online before July 5 under the “events” tab at delcohof.org. Late golf entries and dinner tickets will be accepted after that based on availability.
The golf outing, presented by Pizza King, starts with lunch at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon on July 24. Entry for the four-player scramble event is $240 per team. Hole sign sponsorships are available for $50 and three signs are $100. The lunch is sponsored by Associated Advertising Specialties.
“Proceeds from the golf outing are used to offset the cost of awards given to inductees and scholarship winners at the annual banquet,” Harrell said.
The induction banquet, sponsored by Crown Pointe Communities, will be at 6 p.m. July 25 at the Ball State Alumni Center. Tickets for the dinner are $30 for adults, $15 for children 5-12, and free for children under 5.
This year’s inductees are Cindy (Kizer) Baldwin, Melvin Bryant II, Bob Cook, Caroline (Gullion) Kovalcin, Mike Larrabee, Joselyn (Johnson) Martin, Ryan Schrecongost, Craig Skinner, Kristy (Cox) Smoot, Cody Young, and Doug Zaleski. Harrell will be honored as the James Lightbody Award of Excellence recipient.
The hall of fame this month opened a public display of memorabilia featuring the history of sports in Delaware County. The area is open to the public free of charge in the hallway that connects the Horizon Convention Center with the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in downtown Muncie.
