The Indianapolis Colts made a pair of roster moves on Monday, one of which was placing quarterback Anthony Richardson on injured reserve.
While warming up prior to Sunday’s game with Arizona, Richardson was injured badly, according to ESPN, when a pole that was attached to a stretch band snapped and impacted Richardson around his eye.
Shane Steichen said after Sunday’s game that Richardson suffered an orbital fracture. Stephen Holder has since reported that Richardson’s eye is fine, but there is significant swelling.
With Richardson in injured reserve, he will have to miss a minimum of four games.
Another quarterback-related decision the Colts now have to make is deciding whether to stick with Riley Leonard as the backup or search for a veteran addition.
With an open roster spot following this move, the Colts also claimed safety Reuben Lowery off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens.
Lowery was waived by the Ravens recently after the team traded for Alohi Gilman.
He went undrafted this past April out of Chattanooga and played 76 defensive snaps for the Ravens in three games this season.
Lowery brings a versatile presence to the Colts’ secondary, having lined up all over the defensive backfield in college, and also doing some of that with Baltimore as well.
This includes playing some outside cornerback, although most of his snaps have come closer to the line of scrimmage in either the box or in the slot.
Lowery bolsters the defensive backfield depth, which at cornerback, is currently navigating several injuries.
