Let’s take a closer look at the newest Indianapolis Colts’ defenders, CJ Allen and AJ Haulcy, with highlights from their respective college careers.
Allen ranked among the best in run defense over both the 2024 and 2025 seasons, according to PFF’s metrics. He’s been a very sound tackler. In coverage, he allowed 10.6 yards per catch in 2025, with three pass breakups.
He will have the opportunity to start at the MIKE linebacker position for the Colts right away.
“He’s a really special dude now,” said GM Chris Ballard. “Loves to play, serious about football. It’s evident when you watch Georgia tape. I mean, he shows up.”

Haulcy, meanwhile, is an experienced defender with nearly 3,000 career snaps, spending regular time at both free safety and in the box. He’s been a sound run defender by PFF’s metrics and has had very good ball production in coverage, logging eight interceptions and 10 pass breakups the last two seasons.
He brings added versatility to the Colts’ secondary, as someone who can be moved around. Haulcy also has excellent ball production and coverage abilities. His presence gives Lou Anarumo added flexibility as he builds out his weekly game plans.
“Takes the ball away,” Ballard said. “He’s physical. He’s going to be a good addition.”
