The 2026 NFL draft comes to a close today, and Day 3 shapes up to be another action-packed one for the Miami Dolphins. After a Day 1 trade netted two extra picks, general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has seven more picks out of 13 total for the draft.
Miami took tackle Kadyn Proctor and cornerback Chris Johnson in the first round, then added a pair of Texas Tech alums with its first two picks on Day 2, grabbing star linebacker David Rodriguez and wide receiver Caleb Douglas. After rounding out Round 3 with tight end Will Kacmarek and receiver Chris Bell, the Dolphins could still use help in the secondary, the interior offensive line and defensive end. Some more weapons for new quarterback Malik Willis wouldn’t hurt, either.

Dolphins draft needs: Jermod McCoy, Keionte Scott could be targets
Miami’s biggest needs entering the NFL draft were wide receiver, tight end, guard, defensive end, cornerback and safety. One of the best cornerbacks in the field is still available, but Tennessee’s Jermod McCoy has fallen because he missed all of the 2025 season with a torn ACL. Here are some others the Dolphins could target, pulled from USA TODAY reporter Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz’s list of the best remaining players:
Is Jacob Rodriguez the next Zach Thomas?
New Miami linebacker Jacob Rodriguez said one of his mentors throughout his time at Texas Tech was another legendary Dolphins and Red Raiders linebacker, Zach Thomas. The Pro Football Hall of Famer had high praise for his protégé, telling the Palm Beach Post’s Hal Habib “it’s not even close” that Rodriguez, who won every major defensive award in college football this past season, is the best defensive player in the school’s history. (We can’t call him the best overall player as long as Patrick Mahomes is still out here winning MVPs and Super Bowls.)
