The Indianapolis Colts announced that they have placed cornerback Jaylon Jones on injured reserve.
Jones sustained a hamstring injury in Sunday’s Week 1 win over the Miami Dolphins. During the week, head coach Shane Steichen said that Jones was going to be out for “a while.”
Jones also missed most of training camp, working through a hamstring injury at that time.
At a minimum, Jones will have to miss at least four games before being able to return to practice.
Jones has been a starting cornerback for the Colts for the better part of two seasons, which includes playing over 1,100 defensive snaps in 2024. During that year, Jones allowed a completion rate of 65%, 13.2 yards per catch, and had two interceptions along with 10 pass breakups, according to PFF.
However, this season, in the Colts’ reshaped cornerback room, Jones was providing depth and special teams help at the position. With Jones on IR, rookie Johnathan Edwards will now step into a larger role after being inactive in Week 1.
The Colts now have an open roster spot on the 53-man to fill.
