On a recent appearance on Query & Company, Indianapolis Colts’ left tackle Bernhard Raimann discussed his current contract situation. At least as of now, he and the team aren’t on the same page when it comes to an extension.
“Obviously, we love it here,” Raimann said. “Would love to get things done, but I’m not involved in this. Obviously, you have an agent that takes care of this. From my understanding, they aren’t on the same page about things.”
Raimann continued, “As of right now, they’re not exactly on the same page right now. But as I said, for me as a football player, I’m preparing for the season because that’s what matters.”
Raimann was then asked if the two sides not being on the same page is due to the Colts not wanting to have the conversation yet or the contract figures not aligning, Raimann said it was the latter.
“From my understanding, it’s that the numbers don’t always quite add up. The way they might value the position differently than my team thinks it’s is. But we’re working on things.”
Raimann is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is currently set to be a free agent in 2026.
For some context around what the current tackle market looks like, Tristan Wirfs will enter the 2025 season earning $28.12 million per year–the highest mark for anyone at this position. Lane Johnson is fifth, earning $25 million per year. Dan Moore is 10th at $20.5 million per season, and Mike Onwenu is 17th at $19 million per season, according to Sportrac.
After a breakout year in 2023, Raimann put together another strong performance in 2024, ranking among the best at his position group in both the run and passing games by PFF’s metrics.
“Contracts, you know I won’t talk about that,” GM Chris Ballard said before training camp. “But he’s a really good player and we think a lot of him.”
