Colts believe under the radar free agent addition can have important impact

During free agency, the Indianapolis Colts spent big money to sign safety Cam Bynum and cornerback Charvarius Ward. GM Chris Ballard also brought in competition at quarterback, signing Daniel Jones.

Those are the signings that have largely garnered much of the attention, and understandably so.

However, one more under-the-radar free agent addition that the Colts made, and one that they are quite excited about, is the signing of defensive tackle Neville Gallimore.

“We think Neville Gallimore is going to really help us,” Ballard said. “He had a really good offseason. A really good dude and we think he’s going to add some needed interior depth.”

On the outside, it felt like those rotational roles behind DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart were up for grabs, but based on Ballard’s comments, it sounds like one of those spots already belongs to Gallimore.

During Thursday’s training camp practice, with Buckner having a rest day, Gallimore got the bulk of the first-team reps next to Stewart, according to Jake Arthur of Horseshoe Huddle.

Gallimore was a third-round pick by Dallas in 2020, where he played his first four NFL seasons. He spent 2024 with the LA Rams, where he flashed his playmaking abilities during the 2024 postseason. In those two games, Gallimore recorded three sacks and five run-stops while being on the field for only 45 combined snaps.

Gallimore signed a one-year, $1.17 million deal to join the Colts. Improved play from the defensive tackle position behind Buckner and Stewart is a big need for the Colts in 2025.
