After the sudden death of Perry Township Trustee Dan Combs on Jan. 6, the Monroe County Democratic Party chair people scheduled a caucus to select a new trustee. Combs had served for almost 40 years as the township’s trustee.
When will the caucus be?
The precinct chairs will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, in the Bloomington City Council Chambers at 401 N. Morton St.
Who can vote?
The elected and appointed precinct committee people in Perry Township of Monroe County. They must have been certified with the Indiana Democratic Party in January 2025.
If an elected precinct chair person cannot attend, they may send their vice precinct chair as their proxy.
Who are the candidates?
The filing deadline is closed. The three candidates are Leon Gordon, Eric Petry and Levi Combs, son of Dan Combs.
The winning candidate will serve out the remainder of Dan Combs’ term, which is through December 2026.
About Perry Township
Perry Township is a little over 35 square miles. Part of the township is within the Bloomington city limits. It includes the Broadview, Clear Creek, Hoosier Acres and Sunny Slopes neighborhoods and extends south to Sanders.
The township is managed by an elected board and trustee, which provides financial assistance to its residents for rent, food and burial expenses. The township also oversees fire protection and cemeteries in its borders.
