Cambridge City man accused of firing gunshots at Centerville home

RICHMOND, IN — A Cambridge City man was arrested on Thursday, April 30, after he allegedly fired gunshots at a home in Centerville.

Brennen Douglas Jones, 22, was being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $15,000 bond, on suspicion of criminal recklessness, battery with a deadly weapon and resisting law enforcement.

According to a news release issued by Wayne County Sheriff Randy Retter’s office, deputies were sent to a home in the 1200 block of Rice Road in Centerville about 11 a.m. Thursday after dispatchers received a report of shots fired.

The occupant of a home there told deputies he was inside at the time and was not wounded when his house was hit by gunfire.

Deputies observed what they said was evidence of gunfire, including a shattered window.

Law enforcement officers were soon sent to Cambridge City after receiving information about a possible suspect, and they found a car matching the description of the Charger that had been seen in Centerville.

The vehicle fled, resulting in a brief pursuit that traveled through Cambridge City and onto U.S. 40. The vehicle was later disabled, and the driver, identified as Jones, was taken into custody without further incident.

During the course of the investigation, a firearm believed to be related to the Centerville incident was recovered and placed into evidence, according to the news release.

The investigation is continuing. Wayne County Prosecutor Michael Shipman’s office will determine whether formal charges will be filed.

In addition to deputies, Cambridge City and Centerville police and personnel with the Indiana Department of Transportation were involved in the case.
