An investigation is underway after one person was stabbed at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
According to Indiana State Police, officers responded to a reported stabbing at a food vendor booth near the Coliseum shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8. Police said the victim, a 20-year-old, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. No additional information about the victim’s condition was immediately available.
The suspect was identified by police as 37-year-old Steven T. Mimms of Indianapolis. According to ISP, Mimms fled the scene before officers arrived. With the assistance of the agency’s SWAT team, Mimms was later found hiding in the attic of a residence in the 500 block of North Beville Avenue, where he was taken into custody shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9. He was arrested on preliminary charges of attempted murder, escape from home detention, and resisting law enforcement.
Both Mimms and the person stabbed were identified as employees who worked for a third-party food vendor at the fair.
Mimms was taken to a hospital for evaluation and was expected to be transported to the Marion County Justice Center, police said.
The police investigation remains ungoing.
