Woman arrested for allegedly setting fire to sober living home

SPRINGFIELD, IL – A woman was arrested for allegedly setting fire to a sober living home on the west side of Springfield.

“Several” people had to jump from the second floor to escape the blaze, according to an arrest report obtained by The State Journal-Register.

Two people were taken to the hospital for smoke-inhalation and injuries from jumping from the second floor. Six people lived at the house.

The house appears badly damaged, and its residents have re-located. Damages are estimated at more than $100,000, according to the report.

The home for men was operated by an independent sober living company, a representative said. Everyone who resided in the house was offered a place to stay at other sober living houses, the representative added.

When the Springfield Fire Department got to the fire, they faced heavy fire on the southeast corner of the three-story house. They requested additional fire units to care for the injured residents and help bring the fire under control.

Why is arson suspected?

Police aim to hold Barkley responsible for the ignition of the fire and the people who were injured from the fire.

A culmination of facts led to Barkley’s arrest, according to the report:
