Where to see fireworks in the Springfield area

SPRINGFIELD — Fireworks return to downtown Springfield in celebration of America 250.

Cities and towns across central Illinois are doing their own celebrating as well.

Lucky Horseshoes baseball

What: The Springfield Lucky Horseshoes of the Prospect League and CEFCU light up the skies.

Where: Robin Roberts Stadium, 1415 N. Grand Ave. East

When: First pitch for both games is 6:30 p.m. Fireworks follow the game. July 3 vs. Alton River Dragons); July 18 vs. Decatur Bean Ballers

Pana Third of July Celebration

What: Free activities include bounce houses, train rides, a petting zoo and bags. There will also be a full lineup of food trucks.

Where: Tri-County Fairgrounds, 605 N. 2500 East Road., Pana

When: Activities 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fireworks at dusk, July 3

Lincoln Park District

What: Food trucks, bounce houses and live music at Lincoln Park District.

Where: Lincoln Park District Recreation Center, 1400 Primm Road, Lincoln

When: Around 9 p.m., July 3

Rock the Dock

What: Lake Springfield Marina is the setting for one of the biggest fireworks displays in central Illinois. Live music by Stormfront and Dave Littrell, plus food/drink vendors. $10 admission.

Where: Lake Springfield Marina,17 Waters Edge Blvd.

When: 6 to 11 p.m. Fireworks at dusk, July 4.

Edinburg Freedom Fest

What: The Edinburg Freedom Fest includes a pageant, a keg toss (men), watermelon eating contest (kids) and skillet toss (women). There is food and drinks, including a beer tent.

Where: Veterans Memorial Park, 105 E. Masonic St.

When: Fireworks at dusk, July 4

Sherman Fireworks Spectacular

What: Coolers and tailgating are encouraged at the park. Tune into 106.5 FM for music and countdown to fireworks.

Where: Sherman Village Park, 1200 Rail Fence Road

Knight’s Fireworks Extravaganza

What: Firework Extravaganza at Knight’s Action Park. Live music by The 66 Ramblers at Trade Winds, plus food and drink.

Nichols Park

Where: Nichols Park, 310 E. State St., Jacksonville

When: Fireworks at dusk, July 4

Fireworks Over the Capitol

What: Fireworks return to downtown Springfield in celebration of America 250. The display over the Capitol takes place following a concert by the Springfield Municipal Band.

Where: Concert is at the Y Block, Fourth and Jackson streets

When: Concert at 7:30 p.m., fireworks at 9 p.m.

What: Festivities include a parade, a burgoo and pageant.
