Rebecca Brumfield has left WMBD.
Her last broadcast with the TV news station was Tuesday, July 28. The former anchor said she moved on to take on “the best title in this life: mom.”
“I saw a quote that read, ‘I didn’t step off the ladder because I couldn’t climb. I stepped off because my children weren’t meant to wait at the bottom,’” Brumfield said. “Reading that spoke to me, and I’m happy to say I get to be there for my kids during their most formative years by staying home with them.”
Brumfield, who is married, said she plans to be a stay-at-home mother at least until her son, Beckett, who was born in March, is in school. She also has a daughter, Adeline, who will celebrate her 4th birthday in September.
Brumfield said she takes great pride in her achievements as a news anchor.
“Some of my favorite memories include scaling (the former) Chase Building … for ‘Over the Edge,’” Brumfield said. “I went with the Greater Peoria Honor Flight to Washington D.C. twice during my tenure. Some of the most heartfelt stories were shared by our veterans. I also welcomed Chef Mark Shoopman on the 3 p.m. broadcast for specially crafted recipes. That was a blast!”
Brumfield said working with community partners always brought her “the deepest joy.” She fondly recalls serving as a master of ceremonies for events like the Easterseals Run Walk Rally, the Center for Prevention of Abuse Survivor Walk/Run, and the Center for Prevention of Abuse Duck Race.
Brumfield graduated from Ball State University in 2016 with a dual degree in journalism and telecommunications. While at Ball State, she anchored and reported for the daily student-run broadcast NewsLink Indiana.
Before coming to the Peoria area, she worked at WTWO TV in Terre Haute, Indiana, and spent nearly two years reporting, fill-in anchoring and producing.
She gives back to the community by serving on the board for Pets for Seniors, an organization that matches cats and dogs from animal control facilities with senior citizens who may need help with the responsibilities of pet ownership.
