Most Rockford area schools will be closed Jan. 23 and warming centers will be open as the region braces for extreme cold.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will fall to as low as -13 degrees with a high of just -4 with the wind chill values as low as -35 degrees.
According to the City of Rockford’s Facebook page, the Overnight Cafe operated by Second First Church at 318 N. Church St. will be open this weekend, providing a warm and safe place for area residents.
