Where to find Rockford area warming centers

Most Rockford area schools will be closed Jan. 23 and warming centers will be open as the region braces for extreme cold.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will fall to as low as -13 degrees with a high of just -4 with the wind chill values as low as -35 degrees.

According to the City of Rockford’s Facebook page, the Overnight Cafe operated by Second First Church at 318 N. Church St. will be open this weekend, providing a warm and safe place for area residents.

Here’s a list of other warming centers in the area.

Carpenter’s Place

1149 Railroad Ave., Rockford

Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Rockford Rescue Mission

715 W. State St., Rockford

8 a.m. to 5 p.m./7days a week. Also open 24/7 for persons needing overnight shelter

City of Rockford Health & Human Services

612 N. Church St., Rockford

Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Brooke Road United Methodist Church

1404 Brooke Road, Rockford

Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Loves Park City Hall (gymnasium)

100 Heart Blvd. Loves Park

Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Second First Church

318 N. Church St., Rockford

7 days a week, 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Belvidere Public Safety Building

615 N. Main St., Belvidere

7 days a week, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
