The weekend brings the Wine and Wheels Jeep Show and the Lucky Duck Derby, along with fundraisers, live music and more to the Galesburg area.
Senior Social Hour
What: Enjoy a cup of coffee and make new friends.

Compass Nature Quest
What: Are you up for the challenge of navigating the dark woods, with only a compass, flashlight and your wits to guide you? Brush up on your orienteering skills when you follow the directions on the path to discovery as you search for the prize. Meet at the Lakeside Nature Center Shelter. The program includes an outdoor hike, so dress accordingly.
When: 7:30-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29

On the Hook Fish & Chips
What: The On the Hook Fish & Chips food truck will be available for your purchases of Wild Alaskan cod and fish and chips.

Wine and Wheels Jeep Show
What: Come to look at the Jeeps or enter into the contest. If you wish to enter the contest, you can register upon arrival (free) before parking. Even if you don’t want to enter the contest, you can come park your Jeep. The event also features live music by Jera and the Absoluts plus the Smokin Willies Food Truck.
When: Noon – 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30

Back Stabbin’ Betty
What: Back Stabbin’ Betty will perform.

U-Pick Flowers: Kids Edition
What: This special U-Pick is themed for kids as they head back to school. Enjoy a little Saturday morning fun with flowers and treats. Everyone is still welcome to come pick flowers; there will just be some deals to include kids. There will be a special kid-sized u-pick jar available, plus face painting and yard games. There will be concessions with mini donuts, apple cider slushies and popcorn. Monmouth Bounce House will be set up with inflatable fun. Regular U-Pick offerings will also be available.

After Dark Teen Night Swim
What: Individuals age 13-18 can have a night-time swim. Both pools and the waterslide will be open during the event. Concessions will be available for purchase.

DeJaynes Ride for a Cure
What: All proceeds go to the Alzheimer’s Association for Knox/Warren County. Friedrichs will have food in the side yard of Stubby’s.

Lucky Duck Derby
What: Adopt a duck and watch it race down Crescent Lake Club for cash prizes. You do not need to be present to win. Ducks can be adopted at local businesses: Farmers State Bank (Alpha and Woodhull), Element Coffeehouse, Andrea’s Country Cuts or before 10 a.m. race day. Proceeds go to help fund the Lucky Duck Scholarship for AlWood High School seniors.
When: 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30

Cost: $5 for one duck; Quack Pack of 5 for $20
Reunion and Final Show
What: Come see Past Curfew – The 80s Experience’s 10th anniversary reunion show. Big Catz is where the band started in 2015 so band members chose this venue and date for their absolute, final show. There will be giveaways, swag and a drummer wearing a G string! The after party is in room 223; the password is “asparagus.”
When: 9 p.m. – midnight Saturday, Aug. 30

National Stearman Fly-IN
What: The 54th National Stearman Fly In is known as the world’s largest gathering of the most significant biplane in history, the Boeing Stearman trainer of WWII. There will be daily seminars, a beef festival, BBQ and pizza parties, trams, tours, presentations, airport open house, bi-plane rides, fly-outs, contests and more. A guided audio tram tour of the Stearman flight line is $1 per person. There will be vendors selling food and merchandise, as well as Stearman rides and aerial tours for sale; both Stearman rides and Stearman aerobatics rides are available.

Animal Explorers
What: Join this monthly club to learn about animals with other animal enthusiasts. Pick up a free take-home explorer kit, then meet to share information about the animal of the month. For kids in grades K-3. Registration is required.

State Employment Recruitment Event
What: Central Management Services of the Illinois Department of Employment Security will be hosting a workshop about how to apply for state jobs. A panel of employers from state agencies will speak. Bring copies of your resume. Registration is required.
